The catalog I'm talking about is the World Vision Christmas catalog. In this catalog, when you buy items, they go to people in need. When you buy two chickens for $25, they go to a lady in El Salvador to supply her with eggs for food and to sell to help supply her other needs. When you spend $75, you can help to pay for a water well that can help provide clean water to people in countries like Malawi, where contaminated water can spread diseases like Cholera and Typhoid that can lead to sickness and death. When you spend $32, you can give a child the supplies needed to help give them an education to foster a brighter future. The list goes on and on...
The thing that I want to focus on is the slogan on the catalog, which says “Share the True Spirit of Christmas!” I think in the hustle and bustle and commercialization of the season, sometimes we really do lose sight of the real meaning of Christmas. On Christmas, we celebrate the greatest gift anyone has ever given us when God gave His only son, that through His death, we may have life.
I encourage you during this Christmas season to share the love that Christ showed us by remembering those that are less fortunate. There are several great opportunities to serve right here in Clarksburg, as well as global organizations like World Vision.
