“Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.
You have filled my heart with greater joy…”
Psalms 4: 6-7
Several years ago I stayed at the car while my husband and son set off down the path with fishing gear in hand. They were bantering back and forth about who would get the “big catch” of the day. A while later they came back and my son had a grin that stretched from ear to ear. I assumed he had the biggest fish, but to my surprise, he reached into his pocket to pull out a “gift” for me. It was the jawbone of some kind of animal! When we got home I placed it in a special spot in the knick-knack
cabinet. He was so excited!
As we enter the advent season, I find I am once again waiting. But this time the gift isn’t going to be from a child. The gift is the child. Jesus! I won’t be putting this gift on a shelf...I’ll be sharing it with the world although a part will also be kept in my heart so that each day I am reminded I have a reason to be joyful. God loves me enough that He sent His Son so that I can be saved. What a magnificent gift! Hallelujah!
Prayer: Dear Father, we praise You for the this season that renews the joy in our hearts for the greatest gift ever given—Jesus. Amen.
