“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1:38)
Very brave words for a young, poor, unmarried virgin when the angel Gabriel told her that she would be with child and give birth to a son – God’s son!
Can you imagine what must have gone through her head, knowing that she could be shunned, her fiancé, Joseph, may leave her and people may label her as “crazy”?
Would she have agreed to the plan if she had known at the time that her son would be tortured and crucified on a cross? As a parent, I cannot imagine anything more horrifying than watching your child suffer and die!
God has a plan for each of us. He doesn’t always reveal the entire plan. We must learn to listen and give into God’s will. We must let him direct our paths without question. When our trials seem insurmountable and disastrous, we must let him carry us.
God ALWAYS has our best interest at heart – imagine a parent’s love tenfold- and know that he loves us that much.
Mary gave birth to the Messiah. She held his hand when he was learning to walk, kissed his boo-boos away and dried his tears. She feared when she could not find him, and her heart broke when she had to watch him suffer. Mary loved Jesus as only a mother could…sound familiar?
We are offered eternal life through Jesus Christ. I, for one, am thankful that Mary followed God’s plan with blinding faith – and of course HE knew she would.
